Double Trouble and the Terrible Two's

Not everything in life is about perfection.  It is about living in the moment and making the most of every day.  As a self-proclaimed perfectionist, I've learned that having my own children and working with other people's children is one of the best things that I can do for myself.  Trying to pose a two year old or two of them at the same time can often be just like the expression, "herding cats".  Maybe they don't need to be in a perfect pose?  Maybe they are not going to smile and say cheese for the camera and maybe that's ok?  Sessions like these make me think that maybe I need to venture a little further into natural life-style shoots.  Maybe I'll spend more time shooting natural light and little less time with the off camera flash portraits.  We'll see... :)

Sherri Hines Real Estate

Last year, when we were searching for a home, Sherri spent countless hours showing us homes all over  Kansas City.  I was gigantically pregnant with baby number four, dragging three little kids and searching no matter how awful the winter weather was...and there was plenty of snow that winter...  Knowing that I am literally the pickiest person on the planet, I can imagine how much patience is required to do her job!  Yesterday, we met in the 90 something degree heat to update some of her real estate portraits.  It was a little warm but I'll take that over the snow any day. ;)  It was nice seeing you again Sherri and if anyone is looking for a good real estate agent, give Sherri a call.  Kansas City Homes-Sherri Hines

Miranda, Class of 2015

As usual with senior portraits, I took so many photos that I have had a hard time picking my favorites.  :) We did a double session with outdoor photos at Loose Park and indoor studio portraits.  Thank you Miranda and family for making the trip to Kansas City.  I enjoyed working with you and want to wish you the best of luck picking your favorite photos.  Here is a small selection of some of my favorites.  There are several more that I really liked but I had to stop somewhere... ;)

The Surprise Vow Renewal

Guys, you may not want to let the ladies read this post.  The bar has been raised and expectations will be high....

Eric and Natalie have been married for ten years.  They had planned to get married in the rose garden at Loose Park but for many reasons decided to go to the courthouse instead.  For their anniversary, Eric spent a year creating the ultimate surprise.  He hired the musicians, the photographer, the officiant, reserved the rose garden and the restaurant.  There was a flower girl, decorative head piece and a bouquet of flowers.  The limo picked Natalie up and she was told that she would be dropped off at an unknown location where Eric would meet her.  When she arrived at Loose Park, she was greeted by her parents and sister, who placed the head piece on her head and walked her to the fountain, where her husband waited to walk her down the aisle.  The ceremony was intimate and sweet.   Eric wrote his own vows and gave her an anniversary ring.  The ceremony was followed by a portrait session and a limo ride to the restaurant.

Congrats Eric and Natalie!  I enjoyed meeting you guys a couple of years ago when we did our first photo session together.  And like I told you at the vow renewal, you really are one of the cutest couples I have ever met.  I look forward to seeing how you guys celebrate 25 years! ;)  And to my husband, if you are reading this, our 10 year anniversary is next year....

Nixon Family

Extended family portraits are really becoming a trend this year and I love it.  If you are getting together for a family event or a holiday celebration, make sure to book a photographer to capture a few images.

The Thunder Rolls...

This session was the shortest one I have ever had.  The clouds were dark and we knew the rain would be rolling in.  I was hopeful that it would hold out until the end of our session but no such luck.  Fifteen minutes into the session, the winds picked up and the lightening was putting on quite a show.  With my metal light stand in hand (eeek), we made a run for our cars.  Despite the short window of opportunity we had for the photos, I think we got some cute ones.
